Ecuador and Peru
Continue driving on the high altitude mountain ranges of the Andes as you reach Quito, the second highest capital in the world which is located right on the Equator. This week you will be driving through one of the most versatile countries on this planet. From high mountains and gorgeous coastlines to ancient culture and pristine nature… Peru has it all. It’s hard not to fall in love with this unique South American country. Your Peru visit is incomplete without seeing Machu Picchu, coined as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. The lost city of the Inca certainly appeals with picture perfects scenery. While driving through Peru, be sure to enjoy the night life at Lima, and a series of ancient geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert. Oh, and if you are one of those who is experimental with food, how about trying a Guinea Pig?
Peru and Bolivia
Continue your drive through Peru and visit Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America and the highest navigable body of water in the world. In Andean belief, Titicaca is the birthplace of the sun, making it a must add to your bucket list. Cross the border and enter Bolivia. Experience La Paz, the highest capital city in the world and get clicking at Salar de Uyuni (the Bolivian Salt Flats). 10,582 square kilometers of a thick salt crust, it’s the world’s largest salt flat. Drive in any direction you want for as far as you want, for as long as you want…just make sure your local guide is around to get you out of the salt flats and back into civilization! Conclude Bolivia with a magnificent drive through the Eduardo National Park and witness the geysers and the gorgeous lagoons as you make your way towards Chile. May we suggest you try the Llama meat before you exit Bolivia?
Are you ready to drive in the longest country in the world? Chile has a lot to offer, from the driest desert on Earth, high altitude geysers to the frozen mountains. Your Chile visit is incomplete without visiting San Pedro de Atacama. Boasting picturesque canyons, caves, volcanoes, salt flats and lagoons, the Atacama desert is a nature-lover’s dream come true! Make your way to Santiago and indulge in shopping, clubbing and a couple of days of city life!
Week 06 – 07
The classic combination of food, football and Tango makes Argentina a country like no other. From the surreal Perito Moreno Glacier to driving on the iconic Ruta 40 where the winds are so strong, you need to really keep a tight grip on that wheel. There are so many amazing things you will be doing in Argentina that it is hard to narrow it down. Packed in the itinerary is a Whale Watching Tour in Puerto Madryn.
How safe are these countries?
South America is a very friendly continent and overall it is very safe. Also, the expedition will travel together as a group everywhere with a local guide in each country and all hotels will have safe parking facilities.
Is this trip child friendly? If yes, what’s the minimum age requirements?
Yes, the expedition is suitable for kids above the age of 5 years.
Will vegetarian meals be an issue? Normally,
around 50% of our group comprises of vegetarians. We take special care of individual’s meal preferences and nowhere while driving with us, would you face food issues. We’ll also be carrying some Indian meal options with us in case of emergencies.
What kind of Vehicle will I need?
The tour cost includes your SUV vehicle.
Can we take our own car or will you arrange one for us?
Unfortunately not, bringing your own vehicle on this expedition is neither allowed nor recommended.
What about medical assistance in case of any emergency?
While our crew vehicle will be equipped with oxygen cylinder, first aid kit and basic medical supplies, we would arrange medical help depending upon the situation. If you have a precondition, you must bring a stock of your medicines as we will be driving in remote areas where specific medicines may not be available.
Will you help us procure all documents?
Yes, we will help you get all the relevant documents like visas, permits, driving permissions, vehicle insurance etc. needed for driving across these countries.
What all documents will be needed?
A detailed list will be mailed to you well in advance. We’ll assist you with each and every step with respect to procuring all the relevant documents
What driving experience do I need?
As long as you have an International Driving Permit and are comfortable with driving, you are welcome to join the convoy.
What is the average group size?
Normally, we restrict the group size to a maximum of 20 participants.
What about Vehicle breakdowns and other maintenance?
Don’t worry, any breakdowns or emergencies will be managed by the experienced crew of Adventures Overland travelling with you.
Is the above schedule fixed?
Yes, the schedule is fixed but it worth mentioning that all participants must be prepared for changes en route due to weather conditions, road blockages, border delays or any other unforeseeable reasons.
What can I expect the climate & weather to be like?
The southern hemisphere seasons are reversed, hence you can expect tropical weather during the time of the expedition.
Do you help with forex conversions and international calling cards?
Yes, we will help you with exchanging currency and procuring local SIM cards.
Can I drive with my Indian driving license?
No, you will need an International Driving License which is issued by your local licensing authority or the Automobile Association.
Is it possible for people who don’t know how to drive to be able to join the expedition?
Yes, of course. If you don’t know driving or don’t enjoy driving, you are still welcome to sit back and enjoy the ride.
Is it possible to join the group for a shorter duration?
Yes, of course. You can choose to join us for as many days as you want and in any country or countries you want!
Does any prior cross-border road trip experience required?
No, you don’t need any cross-border experience to join this expedition.
What’s the last date for the registration for this expedition?
30th June 2018 is the last day to join the expedition after which we will not be able to take any more bookings.
Can we take a detour?
No, the itinerary doesn’t offer scope for detours and everyone must travel together in a convoy led by Adventures Overland crew.
What language would be required?
Knowing a little Spanish will come handy, as it’s the most spoken language on the continent but don’t worry if you cannot speak any Spanish, we will have a local guide travelling with us in every country.
What is the time difference between India and South America?
India is 9.5 hours ahead of South America in time. Also, you will experience three change of time zone while driving through the 6 countries
Do we get to do sight-seeing also or is it just driving?
Of course, there will be lots of days on the expedition when we will not do any driving. These days are reserved just for sightseeing.
How many hours every day?
We usually try to start the drive early and reach our destination before sunset. Driving hours can range anywhere from 3 hours to 10 hours.
What kind of accommodation will be provided?
You will be staying in 4* or 5* hotels in all the big cities and in small towns, the best available accommodations will be provided.
Will WiFi be available?
Wi Fi will be available in most hotels during the journey.
