Day 01

Reykjavik

You’ve heard about it, you’ve dreamed about it, and now you’re actually doing it! Welcome to Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital city, home to over 60% of the Icelandic population and the start to your 100% fun-and-adventure loaded journey. Reykjavík is just as popular with locals as tourists. Located in the south-west of Iceland, Reykjavík means Smoky-bay. It’s believed to be the first settlement in Iceland and has a reputation for being one of the greenest, cleanest and safest cities in the world. It is a fascinating city full of quirk, with lots of cosmopolitan things to do, like visiting museums, having cocktails in a cozy bar, and enjoying many great dining options. So, don’t misspend time unpacking and settling into your hotel and head out to explore the buzzing capital city of Iceland today. Let your curated travel experiences in Iceland begin!

Day 01 - Reykjavik

Reykjavik - Golden Circle - Hvolsvollur 220Km

Today, you are going to explore The Golden Circle, a very popular route in southern Iceland, covering about 300 kilometres looping from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. You will start the day 2 of your Iceland tour by going into the Icelandic wild and visit Iceland’s most intriguing natural landmarks. Visit Thingvellir National Park, the site of world’s oldest parliament where you can see the rift valley between the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Proceed to the Great Geyser geothermal area where you can see bubbling hot springs & the geyser Strokkur erupting about every 10 minutes to a 15 – 20 meter height followed by a visit to the massive Gullfoss, translated as Golden Falls, one of the most popular waterfalls of Iceland. Overnight stay at Hvolsvollur.

Day 02 - Reykjavik - Golden Circle - Hvolsvollur 220Km

Hvolsvollur - Höfn 365Km

Today, take a journey on the beautiful southern route, which became famous amongst Indian travellers thanks to the Bollywood song ‘Gerua’. Take a photo stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall and continue towards the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which stopped the air travel across Europe for almost a week in 2010. Proceed to visit the picture perfect Skogafoss – one of the biggest waterfalls, a famous filming location, and a significant milestone in our Iceland customized holiday packages trip. If you are lucky enough you can see a single or double rainbows on a sunny day. Drive on towards Reynisfjara black sand beach which also features an amazing cliff of regular basalt columns resembling a rocky step pyramid called Gardar. Later, proceed to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon to witness one of greatest wonders of nature. Enjoy the 40-minute amphibian boat ride (subject to weather conditions) in the glacier lagoon. Overnight in Höfn.

Day 03 - Hvolsvollur - Höfn 365Km

Höfn - Dettifoss - Lake Myvatn 430Km

Today you will travel to Lake Myvatn – situated in the north of Iceland and created by a large lava eruption 2300 years ago. En-route, visit Dettifoss (subject to operation) – Europe’s most powerful waterfall, which gushes out 500 cubic meters of water per second from its 45 meter high and 100 meter wide edge. Travel through the Namaskard Pass – an area of geothermal activity with boiling mud pools in various colors and amazing surroundings. The smell from the area is pretty distinct due to the sulphur released from the mud pools. Take a photo stop at Lake Myvatn, located along the western side of the volcanic zone which bisects Iceland and is an extension of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Overnight stay at Myvatn.

Day 04 - Höfn - Dettifoss - Lake Myvatn 430Km

Myvatn - Húsavík Whale watching - Godafoss - Akureyri 140Km

Today travel to Húsavík – the whale watching capital of Iceland and one of the best places in the world to get close to these gentle giants. In this part of your Iceland custom tour package, discover the magnificent natural beauty of Skjálfandi bay Húsavík where you can see whales, dolphins and sea birds in their natural habitat. Later proceed to Godafoss, nicknamed as “the waterfall of the Gods”. Some believe that the name comes from the fact that the waterfall is god-like in beauty. In the evening, check in to your hotel in Akureyri, nicknamed the “Capital of North Iceland”. There is free time to walk around the charming Akureyri town, the second largest city of Iceland with a small population of around 20,000 people.

Day 05 - Myvatn - Húsavík Whale watching - Godafoss - Akureyri 140Km

Akureyri - Húsafell into the glacier - Reykjavik

Proceed to Husafell base camp for the thrilling experience of Into the Glacier, a must-have lifetime experience, and perhaps one of the hottest items to tick off your bucket list in Iceland! Step into a man-made ice cave in Langjokull glacier. A customized all-terrain truck will take you to the entrance of the ice tunnels. The vistas on this drive are magnificent, the landscapes unfolding beneath you stunning, and the continuous surface of the glacier so barren and beautiful that it seems otherworldly. Explore the ice tunnel and the caves located high on Europe’s second largest glacier Langjokull – the second largest ice cap in Iceland with up to 1900 ft thick ice. After witnessing the magical world inside of a glacier, jump back in the truck for a return journey to Húsafell. Arrive in Reykjavik by evening.

Day 06 - Akureyri - Húsafell into the glacier - Reykjavik

Reykjavik - Blue Lagoon - Reykjavik

Today you have one last piece of the Icelandic landscape to admire before flying back home as you head towards The Blue Lagoon, one of the most popular destinations in Iceland. An outdoor spa located just outside of Grindavík, Blue Lagoon will provide you the much needed relaxation and rejuvenation after roughing it out on the road over the last few days. From the mineral-rich brackish water to the exfoliating mud, this spa offers rejuvenating treatments in ways that you could never imagine. The beauty of the Blue Lagoon will warm you, soothe you, and leave you positively lost for words. A dip in the insanely beautiful geothermal waters of Blue Lagoon is also said to be good for health. Test it for yourself as you don your swimsuit and submerge into the bright azure steaming pools.

Departure from Reykjavik

Enjoy a guided tour of Reykjavik on your last day of Iceland custom tour which includes a photo stop at Solfar sculpture on the waterfront, walking on the main street Laugavegur and the harbour. Visit the towering Hallgrim’s church, the largest church and the sixth tallest architectural structure in Iceland famous for its pipe organ. Visit the Presidential Residence at Bessastadir, the Restaurant Perlan (the Pearl) followed by a quick stop at the Hofdi House where the all-important summit meeting between President Ronald Reagan and Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev took place in 1986. Later, visit Perlan Museum, also known as Perlan ‘Wonders of Iceland’. Finally, bid farewell to Iceland as you head towards the airport to catch your flight back home. You will return home fully transformed with a fire for adventure and thrill in your eyes and heart that shall never subside.
