Experience China

China is one of the most talked-about countries in the world and no matter which part of the world you live in, chances are that you own something that is ‘Made in China’. Over the last few years, China Tour packages have become increasingly popular amongst holidaymakers from all over the world. Everyone has heard about the rapid development in the popular cities of China like Beijing and Shanghai. Anyone who plans a China Tour always has these cities high on their bucket list. Did you know that China is the 4th largest country in the world? With such a big landmass, there is much more to do and see on a China Trip in addition to Beijing and Shanghai. Of course, the most famous landmark and one of the top things to do on a China Tour is to visit the Great Wall of China. Most of the tourists who book China Tour packages go to the eastern coast of China and return home. But there is so much more to do and see on a China tour in addition to these places. Ranging from east coast to west coast or from the north to the south, there is something unique, rare, interesting and historical to see in every corner of China.  Unlike many other countries, no matter how much time you give yourself for a China tour, it is going to be less. You just cannot do justice to this massive country on any one China trip.

Beijing

Most China tour packages start from Beijing, the capital of China and the world’s most populated city. An ancient city going back over 3 millennia, Beijing is known not just for its ancient history but also for its modern architecture that is one of the best in the world. In addition to visiting the Great Wall of China, Beijing is also home to the world-famous Forbidden City, the Imperial Palace and a lot of ancient temples.

Shanghai

An interesting and fun way to travel from Beijing to Shanghai is to take the bullet train. As part of your China tour, make sure to travel on the World’s Fastest Passenger train which can go as fast as 350 km per hour. It is going to be one of the most memorable experiences of your life as you travel from Beijing to Shanghai on board the bullet train. Once you reach Shanghai, the biggest city of China often referred to as the “Oriental Paris”, located on the central coast, is also the financial hub of China. The famous and futuristic skyline of China includes skyscrapers like the Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower with distinctive pearl spheres. A China tour package would remain incomplete without a visit to this famous tourist destination which is a perfect blend of the east and the west.

Chengdu

If you want to make your China tour interesting and unique, then you must pay a visit to Chengdu for one and just one reason, to spend a day with the Giant Pandas. The capital of Sichuan province, Chengdu is home to the famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda breeding where you can view endangered pandas in their natural habitat. It is easy to include Chengdu in your China trip especially because Chengdu is home to the maximum numbers of Giant Pandas in the world. Regarded as one of China’s most liveableand laidback cities, it is difficult not to fall in love with this romantic city. Chengdu is also famous for its spicy food including the Sichuan peppercorn spice.

Xian

If you wish to make your China tour culturally rewarding, include Xian, the capital of Shaanxi Province in your China tour package. Xian, the ancient capital of 13 dynasties is home to numerous historical and cultural sites. The most important amongst all places in Xian is a visit to the Terracotta Army Warriors where you can see a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. All this art got buried with the emperor in 210-209 BCE to protect the emperor in his afterlife. Xian is also an important historic landmark and is worth including on your China tour as it marks the eastern end of the ancient silk route.

Jiayuguan

If time permits and you are a historic buff, spend a few days exploring the cities that were most important to China during the times of the ancient Silk Route. Though most China tour packages include only the popular cities mentioned above, if you want to visit the depths of China, your China trip must include a visit to the Jiayuguan Great Wall, the vital pass to the world’s oldest trading route. Do you know it took 168 years to complete the wall? You may have seen the Great Wall of China from the east, but in Jiayuguan, you canvisit and even climb the Western end of the Great Wall of China.

Dunhuang

From Jiayuguan, continue your China tour towards Dunhuang, a city located in northwest China in the Gansu province on the edge of the Gobi Desert. It used to be one of the most important transit points on the ancient silk route.  In Dunhuang, you can indulge in a lot of desert activities like camel safari, jeep safari or simply walk on top of a sand dune to watch a glorious sunset. Most tourists on a China trip include Dunhuang in their itinerary to visit the Magao Caves located a few minutes outside the city. The Mogao Caves, also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes or Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, is a collection of nearly 500 temples. The caves contain some of the finest examples of Buddhist art spanning 1,000 years.

Turpan

If you are on a road trip in China and have the flexibility to plan your route unlike regular China tour packages, drive from Dunhuang to Turpan located in the Xinjiang province. Officially known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, it is a provincial-level autonomous region of China in the northwest of the country. You will find it very interesting to know that Xinjiang is the largest Chinese administrative division and the 8th largest country subdivision in the world, spanning over 1.6 million sq. km. Xinjiang is probably the only state in the world that shares borders with 8 countries including Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. It is also worth mentioning here Xinjiang is home to many ethnic minority groups, including the Turkic Uyghur people. The ancient Silk Road trade route linking China and the Middle East passed through many cities in Xinjiang and the influence can be seen in the traditional open-air bazaars of its oasis cities like Kashgar. You will see a classic confluence of cultures, food and people in Xinjiang. Don’t blame yourself if you get confused and question yourself if you are in China. Everything from the faces of the local people, the food, clothing and culture are completely different from what one expects in China and you will find a strong influence of neighbouring Central Asian countries in Xinjiang.

A China tour can be anything that you want it to be. You can visit sprawling cities, drive on silky roads and experience the futuristic progress made by China. A road trip in China is one of the best ways to explore this country that is a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. There is so much to see, explore and experience in this vast country that one China trip cannot do justice to this fascinating country. On your China tour, make sure you try the local food wherever you go. Contrary to popular belief, if you are a vegetarian, China offers a lot of vegetarian food. Of course, if you take a China tour package from India and expect to get Indian food everywhere, you might be disappointed. But most big cities in China have Indian restaurants and others will have a lot of local vegetarian options available for you to try. The local people are very friendly and go out of their way to help you to make sure you are comfortable.

Since China is such a huge country, the best time to plan your China tour will depend upon which part of the country you plan to visit. But mostly, spring and autumn are the best times to visit China i.e. Any time from March to May and from September to November. During these months, you will get the best weather generally all over the country. If you are travelling on a China tour package from India, you will get a lot of flight options from different Indian cities going directly to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and many other cities. It is also not expensive to go on a China trip as food, hotels and the cost of travelling within the country is not that expensive. If you compare a package holiday in China to a holiday in Europe or Australia, you will find that China is going to give you value for money. It has something for all age brackets and is an ideal destination for a perfect family holiday.
