Warm azure ocean, swaying coconut palms on white sandy beaches await you today! Lapped by the Indian Ocean, Mombasa has an amazing shoreline with white sandy beaches stretched out from the South to the North Coast. Enjoy the day at leisure as you seek solace in the pristine white sand beaches. If beaches don’t fancy you, then you can choose to go café-hopping and indulge your taste buds with Mombasa food. This is your day, your way!
Mombasa – Tsavo West
Ready for some wilderness? Post breakfast, we are heading to Tsavo West National Park, where you can witness fifty million gallons of crystal clear water gushing out of from the under parched lava rock known as the Mzima Springs. Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness.
The park holds a trace of legend about it, first for its famous man-eating lions in the late 19th century and then for its devastating levels of poaching in the 1980s. Despite the latter, there’s still plenty of wildlife here, which includes elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, cheetah, leopards, buffalos, diverse plant and bird species.
We suggest you watch the 1996s ‘The Ghost and the Darkness’ film, if you haven’t already to learn more about the legends of “The Tsavo Man-Eaters” – a pair of notorious, man-eating lions.
In the evening enjoy game drives. Just keep your eyes open for movement and signs of African wildlife.
Tsavo West – Nairobi
Lets’ treat ourselves to one last morning drive in Tsavo West before we head our way to Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital city. En-route, stop and visit the Sikh Temple Makindu, also known as Harminder Sahib of Africa. Built by the Sikhs who worked on the railway lines around 100 years ago, this is one of the oldest Gurudwaras in Kenya. Here, you can partake in Guru-Ka-Langar served warmly by Sikh volunteers.
Known as the Green City in the Sun, Nairobi is as pleasant as it sounds. Nairobi has a fabulous national park on its doorstep, some wildlife-centric attractions, the excellent National Museum and a series of quirky sights. So, what are you waiting for? The evening is free to explore this city at leisure.
Nairobi – Masai Mara
Get ready for a remarkable experience to get closer to the wilderness. This morning, we will take a short flight (45 minutes) for the start of our great Masai Mara adventure. The Masai Mara National Reserve is a land of breath-taking vistas, abundant wildlife and endless plains. We will pass down and through the Great Rift Valley as we arrive at our lodge, just in time for lunch in the famous Masai Mara. This afternoon will include your first game drive, seeing some of Africa’s vast array of wildlife both big and small on the rolling hills of this magnificent nature reserve.
With packed picnic lunch in hand, we will depart on a full day game drive in search of Africa’s elusive big cats: the lion, leopard and cheetah. This reserve is the scene of one of nature’s most incredible and humbling event – the Great Migration. During the right season, watch with your jaws open as millions of wildebeest and zebra risk their lives crossing crocodile-infested waters with lions lurking on the banks as they bravely press forward to greener pastures.
Make sure you have your camera ready for your last glance of this extraordinary location.
Maasai Mara – Lake Nakuru
Good morning, African roamers! Today we’re off to bird lover’s paradise. On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park, a mecca for a plethora of birds, especially flamingos.
More photo opportunity alert! Today’s your chance to capture one of Kenya’s most well-known sights, the breath-taking soda lake and its millions of rose-pink flamingos.
Nakuru has more than just flamingos and we suggest exploring beyond the lake for a rewarding experience, as there are forests, cliffs, waterfalls and more to be found here.
Lake Nakuru – Nairobi
Our final breakfast will be provided at the hotel before we set off. This day is your last chance to take as many photo souvenirs as possible, while we enjoy a final spectacular view of the Great Rift Valley on our way back to Nairobi.
In the evening, Nairobi is all yours to explore as you like.
With full hearts and memories, here is where we say fond farewells to our Africa Adventure and our new Adventures Overland family.
