Iceland has been blessed with the ability to turn the commonplace into the exceptional. Welcome to this magnificent destination that has been topping the wish list of spirited travelers for years now and is marked by the infectious sparkle of its capital. Get ready to groove to the tune of electrifying Reykjavik as you meet your fellow participants with whom you are going to experience one of the most memorable journeys of your life.
After breakfast, we will head towards the vehicle pickup location where we will get briefed on the vehicles and driving conditions in Iceland. With the power of Land Rover Defender in your hands, we head north from Reykjavík towards the Snaefellsnes Peninsula region. Traversing through the road less traveled, we will explore the iconic Black Church in Búðir, the Svörtuloft Lighthouse and the Saxhóll Crater. The day will end at a stunning location where you can celebrate the success of your first driving day in Iceland.
As you leave the peninsula, take a moment to admire the stunning coastal scenery. Rolling our wheels further towards the famous Golden Circle, we will discover nature’s wonder, the Thingvellir National Park. Driving through the park, you will see the stunning rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, as well as numerous waterfalls, hot springs, and other natural wonders. The day will conclude at the Great Geysir hot spring area, one of Iceland’s most famous attractions.
Today calls for our overlanders to bring in some extra warm clothing and a sense of adventure! Start your day by driving from Geysir to Gullfoss Falls. This stunning waterfall drops over two tiers into a deep canyon, creating a powerful and a dramatic sight. After witnessing this majestic waterfall, we will head towards Langjokull Glacier where you spend the most exhilarating and adrenalin pumping hours of your life as we ride snowmobiles on the Langjokull, Iceland’s second largest glacier and home to some of the most breathtaking scenery in the country.
We will begin our day with a visit to a natural Ice Cave called Katla. We will spend the morning witnessing the stunning beauty of mother nature which will only get better as the day progresses. In the second half, we will head towards more natural wonders of Iceland as we explore the Black Sand and Diamond beaches on a stunning coastal drive. In the evening we will head to our hotel in Glacier Lagoon area with the hope of witnessing Northern Lights in the night.
Today will be our last driving day but there is still a lot left to witness and explore. We will drive along the southern coast passing small Icelandic farms where we can stop and learn about Icelandic greenhouse farming before we continue towards the stunning Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. With a heart full of memories and a bag full of souvenirs, we will finally head back to Reykjavik and hand over the vehicles.
Wake up leisurely and after a hearty breakfast, get on board a private coach as we head towards the Blue Lagoon. Get into your swimwear and step into the soothing geo-thermal waters of the Blue Lagoon where you can spend a few hours relaxing with your friends and even enjoy a drink at the floating bar. After a lazy lunch, head back to Reykjavik and spend your last evening exploring and shopping before getting together for a farewell dinner with your fellow participants.
We believe that the journey never ends for people who go on a trip with Adventures Overland. It is an experience that we will never forget, and we are certain that you won’t too! We will see you off at the airport. Goodbye until next time! v
